Born in Michigan in 1946, Carol Christie studied Art Education at Central Michigan University.   She relocated to Atlanta, Georgia in 1969 to raise her     family and has been a self-taught artist since         1982. She has exhibited her bold and colorful work in juried shows since 1990.
Carol Christie’s paintings burst off the canvas with explosive strokes of dynamic color and energy. Her work is improvisational and spontaneous, with a strong rhythmic base and a lyrical expressiveness which likely grows from her love of music and early training as a pianist.
Christie considers music inseparable from her own creative process. “I am an intuitive painter,” says Christie. “Listening to classical music allows me to paint what I feel, rather than thinking of what, and how, to paint. I often feel that I am composing melodies in paint.”  Carol's paintings create an intriguing contrast between subtle simplification and the energy of the works themselves. Poetic, multi-layered paintings, requiring fast drying time, make acrylic paint the best medium for her current work.  As Carol continues to evolve, she is committed to trusting her uniqueness. The journey, not the destination, is her driving force. If her work speaks to you, thank you for coming along for the ride.
